What is brewed coffee?
Brewed coffee is a popular way to prepare coffee where hot water is filtered through ground coffee in a filter, for example paper, producing a smooth drink without sediments in the cup. There are many brewing methods such as Pelador, V-60, Chemex, Kalita, electric coffee makers, and much more.
Why do baristas make brewed coffee?
- Create personalized coffee experiences
- Create more individualized moments with clients
- Highlight more subtle nuances of Specialty Coffee
- They prepare individual cups according to flavor and aromas
Brewed coffee preparations are much more delicate and require greater knowledge of preparation and attention to variables such as ratio, water temperature, coffee grind, pour control, and are ideal for preparing high quality coffees. Our course also includes basic cupping training.
NOTE! This skill is exclusively developed in our course.

Which brewing methods will you learn to master?
At Barista Hustle we differentiate between manual and automatic drip or bloom methods.
You will learn to handle methods such as v60, Chemex, Kalita, Melitta, and Pelador.
In specialty coffee shops in Europe, Australia, and the United States, automatic machines and Batch Brew are seen more and more, and you will learn to handle them properly.
Preparing coffee without cupping is like making bread without baking it
Cupping is a fundamental skill to understand the coffee quality from the farm, the roast, and the preparation. We teach you how to detect problems in the raw material and in the preparation and how to solve them.
What is coffee Extraction?
Coffee experts distinguish between two basic concepts: Extraction and concentration.
Extraction refers to how many compounds are extracted from the coffee bean. 30% are soluble, and among these, there are salty, acidic, sweet, dry, and bitter compounds. A good Extraction allows the Sweetness to stand out as much as possible with a balance of the other flavors.
Concentration refers to the ratio between water and dissolved coffee compounds. An Espresso has approximately 10% coffee strength, an Americano (having the same Extraction as the Espresso) 3%, and Brewed Coffee ranges between 1.3% – 1.5%.
You control both with the following variables:
- Grind
- Contact time
- Water temperature
- Turbulence or pressure
- Coffee and water ratio
